The Cat Connection:
Got first cat – a Seal Point Siamese – when 7 years old.
Have had at least one cat since then except for two days when I moved to Long Island. Two days after setting up my apartment I adopted a Blue Persian from a family whose father became allergic.
Moved up to two cats when sister could no longer take care of family Cream Persian so I took it in.
Expanded to three cats when we took in a stray kitten from the private airport I fly out of. Fourth came when I took in a feral cat from where I work.
Five and six are Foster cats from Hurricane Sandy, who are now permanent members of our family.
Seven, eight, nine and ten ( where we currently stand) are feral kittens from one of two colonies Karen takes care of daily.
Catskill Cat Connection:
Learned of festival from parents when its third year and started going to the gala to hopefully buy one.
I had extremely good taste and any of them I liked always went to high for our pocketbook.
In 2011 I won two “Kitty Carson and Mad Catter. Talking to the artists, I said I was always intrigued by them and they encouraged me to submit designs the following year. By this time I had a studio in Huntington where I was making cats out of everything and anything I could find.
For 2012 I submitted three designs and CirCat was selected and sponsored by Hudson Valley Cablevision. They bought it at the Gala and I guess it is in the lobby of their offices.
For 2013 I submitted three designs and two were picked – Catographer, sponsored by Hudson Catskill Newspapers and Tabby Cat, sponsored by B & B Garage.
Scaling back, I submitted two designs for 2014 and again two were picked. Cat-A-Pult who is at the corner of Bridge and Main, and Cat’s Pajamas, who is the “Foreign Exchange Ambassador” cat with Saugerties. She will be in display in Saugerties while one of their Lighthouses will be in Catskill.
Other things to know:
I collect and write children’s books (primarily featuring cats, naturally). Submitted, but have yet to be published.
I own and fly antique aircraft.
